[Throwback Thursday] Moment Of Silence

What’s up bosses and boss chicks! It’s been forever since I did a post for #ThrowbackThursday but now that I’ve gotten more settled it’s time to get back on track. I wanted to do a video this week to bring focus to the injustices of the world and I thought of the perfect song. I’ve always been a huge Nas fan, he was my first hip hop crush.

This song “Just A Moment” was such a powerful song when it came out. I’ve always loved how outspoken Nas has been about issues of the world. With all the backlash around us right now behind Trayvon Martin, the presidential candidacy, and all the other unjust acts going on in the world this song was perfect for the throwback of the week. Hope you guys enjoy it and stay bossy :)

[Fashion Files] The Floral Blazer

Now that Spring has finally arrived, I have this newfound obsession with blazers. Let’s just face it, this is a staple item that every female should have in her closet because they will probably never go out of style again. We now have so many options for unique blazers that you can wear them literally over everything. Blazers come in different designs, colors, and patterns so if you own a few your wardrobe should never be dull.

One of my favorite designs right now is the floral print and for obvious reasons. Spring is the season of flowers blossoming and beautiful colors blooming all around us. Well the floral blazer exemplifies just that. Since there are so many diverse colors in a floral blazer, it’s easy to use in a color blocking scheme. If you like to wear bright colors this is perfect for you… You can always pair it with a bright pair of pants, a skirt, or dress.

Check out a look I created below with the River Island Tropical Floral Blazer found at ASOS for $80.57. I paired it with a pair of green pants and mustard yellow wedges from Bakers. The wedges color block perfectly with the pants, and since both colors are in the blazer it all ties together classily.  Let me know what you think!

Unjust Justice

#JusticeForTrayvon

You know how certain words that come with feeling, emotion or action can be used so loosely that they begin to lose their effective meaning? Love is a great example, since it’s thrown arround so much. Not only that but marriage is a word that has turned into a mockery in our society. But I bet the word “justice” doesn’t immediately come to your mind when you think of these types of words.

Everyone has heard about the Trayvon Martin case, if you haven’t then I assume you live under a rock. Trayvon was murdered in an insensitive act of violence by a 28 year old Latino neighbor , George Zimmerman, who was a “self proclaimed” neighborhood watch captain. I won’t really go into details behind everything that was reported since we all should be familiar with the story, but Zimmerman is STILL walking as a free man to this day.

On the recording where Zimmerman had called 911, you can hear plain as day how the representative told him not to pursue Trayvon and said they had someone on the way to check into it. The only cause that Zimmerman had to actually go after Trayvon was that there had been previous break ins in the area, and that Trayvon had on a hoodie and his hand was in his pocket. If this is grounds for him being a “suspect” then I guess you could say about 90% of young kids with hoodies look suspect as well.

Since then, the issue has become nationwide and the outrage that has followed has been just as great. I’ve seen many people as well as celebrities showing love publicly either by wearing hoodies or sending off empty skittles bags. Everyone has been posting their pictures to different social networks in hopes of raising awareness to the case and bringing justice to Trayvon.

When I read about this it really hurt me to my heart. To know that issues like this still arise in our justice system is absurd. I know lots of people and the media have turned it into a race crime, but even without considering race the crime in general is one of which should not entitle freedom. How is it possible that George Zimmerman received no punishment whatsoever, yet Trayvon wasn’t armed? We already said how the 911 rep told Zimmerman not to pursue Trayvon. Also, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend when it happened and she confirmed that he was attacked by Zimmerman.

It’s just crazy to me that this could be called an act of “self defense”  according to the law in Florida. How is it possible that he pull no time for this but people get life sentences behind drugs? How can stealing be considered a crime more worthy of jail time than killing a teenage boy? I really don’t get it. It just goes to show that our world really is screwed up and our justice system isn’t so just. Feel free to leave your thoughts on this issue below! Also check out pics of different celebrities as well as some of my facebook friends and twitter followers in their hoodies for Trayvon.

I hope he gets the justice he deserves! #WeAreTrayvonMartin

[Fashion Files] Peach Jackets For Spring

What’s up bosses and boss chics! Spring is finally here! Bring on the pastels, bright colors, and open toes! Even though we can honestly say we didn’t have much of a winter here, I’m still ready for warm weather. For the past two weeks in our area it’s been in the 70′s and low 80′s almost every day… crazy right?

Anyway, with the new season comes new trends and peach jackets will be amongst them as seen above. I love this color! I’ve actually had a peach leather jacket for a few years now; it was given to me by my mother. It still looks brand new so I wear it from time to time.

The good thing about having a peach jacket is the ability to color block with it. There are so many colors that go well with this since it’s a pretty neutral shade itself. I’ve seen it worn with bright pinks, white, brown and tans, turquoise and sky blue, as well as greens, purples and oranges. So you definitely can have fun with it and experiment and still be bossy :)

Below I’ve used the blazer to make my own look. I would wear this outfit with chunky gold jewelry.. big earrings, a thick or long necklace, and lots of bracelets! Take a look below and let me know what you think!

SN: The peach in the shoe below is the same shade as in the jacket and the teal in the shoe is the same as in the blouse… the color of the shoe looks a tad darker in the pic below. Also the pants roll up, but you can’t really see that in the pic.

[Positive Monday] I’m So Happy, Baby

What’s up bosses and boss chics! I hope ya’ll haven’t been laying me out too bad for my lack of posts, I do apologize! Since I’ve moved I have been trying to get everything situated just how I want it. And until that was done there was no room for me to focus on the blog at all. You know how you get something and you’re not satisfied until it’s exactly the way you want it? That’s how I was about my apartment. I needed everything in order before I could even begin to think about anything else. There are still a few kinks that need to be straightened out, but other than that I think it’s safe to say I’m settled in!

On another note it’s #PositiveMonday again and while I don’t have a specific thing to focus on, I have so much to be thankful for. Lately I had been secretly weeding out my garden, making lists of habits I want to break, you know general things that could improve my well being. I’ve been focusing on making my life as stress free as possible. I’ve been trying to stay on top of bills more and pay them as they come rather than waiting close to the due date. I’ve also cut back majorly on unnecessary spending and shopping. I want to be able to save as much as I can for the future.

[Fashion Files] “Now I’m Ridin’ Neon”

Good morning bosses and boss chics! I apologize for the lack of posts for the past week or so! I’ve just gotten settled into my apartment and I haven’t really had time to blog lately. Hopefully I’ll be back in full swing this week! My favorite weather will be here before we know it and I wanted to give you guys a heads up on one of the trends that will be in style during the warmer months.

Neon pumps have pretty much always been in, but it seems like they’re becoming increasingly popular as the years pass. Before we would see women with neon pumps and immediately think clownish or cheap. Well now there are so many different pair of neon pumps out there, you can’t resist buying a pair! Not to mention they add the perfect flair to a color blocking look, or they add spice to your look as a whole period.

Since it’s harder to match up clothes to shoes when the color is bright, I wasn’t much of a fan of the neon pumps until the color blocking trend became more popular. That opened my eyes up to the many different ways you can mix and match with one set color, instead of matching fom head to toe. I still have a pair of blue open toe pumps that I have yet to wear, maybe I’ll get to pull them out this summer!

Check out the shoes below and let me know what you think. Will you be wearing neon pumps this spring/summer?

XOXO,

LaBellaBoss ♥
