[Life Files] Note To Self

What’s up bosses and boss chics! Ya’ll know I am all about a positive message, well I was browsing Oprah’s website which I do often and came across a very inspiring piece. Now let me back up a little and just say  that Oprah has always been my inspiration. I’m sure she has inspired us all in some form or fashion, but since I was a little girl I’ve always known that I wanted to be famous for doing something great for the world, and Oprah is the inspiration behind that dream.

I used to get out of school every day and go home and watch Oprah with my grandma. I loved how she reflected light on situations that were swept under the rugs of homes, she brought realizations to the world that celebrities are just as human as the rest of us, and she ALWAYS made sure to give back to the world. Not only that, but Oprah has a story. Her life was not all roses and sunshine, but she took her life situations and made them work for her, constantly setting and reaching new goals.

Anywho as I was checking out different articles on her website, I came across one that had excerpts from different celebrities giving their 25 year-old selves a bit of advice. I read through them all but the one that stood out most to me was that of Michael J Fox. Everything he said makes so much sense and if I could just live by these few words of advice daily, I might just make my life a little more stress free. Check it out below and leave your thoughts in the comments! Subtract 5 years from your age and if you could look back give yourself any piece of advice at that age, what would it be?

[Positive Monday] Lose Control

Janet was too fly in her shades as a teen! Lol

Happy Monday Bosses and Boss Chics! Another week has approached us, and instead of looking at it as a dreadful Monday we must start our day by being thankful to see another 24 hours. Even though things don’t always work out the way we want or when we want, there is a divine order to the way our lives are supposed to be and for that we should always be thankful. No matter what, our lives are already planned and everything is ordered… therefore you can’t stress over what you can’t control.

[My Natural Transition] 1 Year Anniversary

Good morning bosses and boss chics! I have finally reached my one year anniversary for my transition to natural hair! It seems like it took me forever but I can’t believe I did it. There is no way you could’ve told the old me who LOVES a silk wrap that my hair would be one year into natural by now lol.

The good thing about it is that I’ve realized I can do much more with natural hair than I could with relaxed. My hair is much thicker and stronger, which ironically makes it more manageable as well. I’ve found many ways to pin it up or wear it curly. Throughout my transition, I’ve kept you guys posted with different blows showing the ways I’ve worn my hair. My favorite is always when it’s full of volume and curls :)

Majority of the styles I’ve worn have been created using bantu knots or having one of my friends do my hair in a twist set. I don’t have much relaxer left in my hair and I’m thinking of how I want to change up my look as we speak. I wouldn’t mind going for a cut or getting color. However, I know color won’t show up too well without bleach, and I don’t think bleach is a route I want to take. On the flip side, I’ve thought about getting a sew in just to switch things up… I’ve always wanted to go the bright red that Rihanna had previously. I guess we’ll see how it works out. In the meantime, I’ll be experimenting with fishtail and goddess braids soon.

Check out some of my favorite natural styles that I’ve tried below. Are you natural or in the process of transitioning? If so feel free to leave your thoughts on the process below as well as any tips you’d like to share. Going natural is definitely a process that takes some getting used to, but I think it’s well worth it. Your hair is one of the things that can be used to express yourself, and going natural is a wonderful statement to make.

[Positive Monday] Live Out Loud

Happy Monday bosses and boss chics! OMG I had an EPIC weekend! I haven’t had this much fun in so long! I wanted to take time out to have a little fun because I really don’t get out as much as I should. Where we live, we go out in Greensboro NC if we really want to have a good time since there’s not really any clubs in my town. On Thursday night, my best friend Tia and I decided we wanted to go out in Greensboro and hit up a few of our girls for the trip.

Friday we spent the evening getting ready at my place, having a good time laughing and joking as we got dressed. And of course we had to have a photo shoot lol, it just wouldn’t be right! We ended up going to a club called Lotus Lounge for one of the local radio personality’s birthday party. We had so much fun! The music was great, the drinks were great and we looked and felt great. I hadn’t had that much fun on a girls’ night out in so long. And the best part about it is between gas, getting in the club, and food and drinks I know I didn’t spend over $25… you know I was winning! lol

The next night, one of my childhood friends had an engagement party as she’s getting married this August and I’m in her wedding. (SN: I’m so excited, I love weddings!) I went to the engagement party with one of my other good friends Brittney and we had so much fun! We got dolled up again and went out expecting it to be a quiet dinner or something and ended up having round two of a night of fun. The dj was great, the food and drinks were so good, and on top of that it was so warming to see the engaged couple basking in their love together. We even hit the Step In The Name Of Love, the Wobble, and the Electric Slide. I can’t express enough how good it makes me feel inside to be surrounded by people in love, or people just out to have a good time with one another in the name of love. It was great!

To wrap up my weekend, I went back down to Greensboro yesterday to my aunt’s church with my family and we went out to dinner. One of the things I love about my family is how we always make sure we get together often so we remain as close as ever. Having a loving family and friends can make such a difference in your life. But most importantly we have to remember to get out and live a little and always enjoy life, because you only have one. Make sure you check out a few pics from my weekend below and have a #PositiveMonday!

Let’s Make It Last Forever

I was browsing through twitter today and saw where one of my favorite tweeps @Amazing_Aura had tweeted about the significance of marriage today. She asked if anyone would forego a wedding and an actual marriage because they simply feel like it’s “just a piece of paper”. Not too long ago, I was reading through Necole Bitchie’s site comments as they were having a discussion about the value of marriage these days… I think it was right after the time Kim K filed for divorce from Kris Humphries after their 72 day marriage. So I have to ask my readers, how important is marriage to you?

[Fashion Files] Camper Twins Moccasins

Camper Twins Moccasins $144.99

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these Camper Twins moccasins I found online at zappos.com!!! They are sooo hot! Ok let me come back down to earth now, but let me just tell ya’ll I have died and gone to Heaven over these shoes! If you follow me on twitter or instagram then you already know that I live for moccasins. They are so comfy, fashion forward, and unique… you won’t catch too many people walking around wearing them. For those reasons, they are by far my favorite shoe.

Here lately I noticed that I’m sort of finding myself when it comes to personal style. I’ve gotten more into the bohemian/vintage look lately, but I’m also into that rock/biker look as well. But at the same time I always tie everything together to make it girly. Anywho I just had to do a look around these moccasins in the above picture! I paired them with acid wash skinny jeans, a sleeveless denim top (which you can tie at the front if you’d like), and lots of silver jewelry. A cute pair of black sunglasses would add just the extra touch of bad-assness needed to complete the look.

Check out the look I put together below and let me know if you’d rock this out :)

SN: Don’t you just love the storm clouds designed into the moccasins?? #BAWSE!

[Bossy On Budget] Mossimo Floral Shorts

Mossimo Jeans Floral Shorts $17.99

What’s up bosses and boss chics? Spring has got me in fashion overdrive with each passing warm, sunny day. I’m so excited about the summer and vacations and free weekends, trips to the pool, the beach, etc. Of course you can’t do all of that without dressing the part. I wanted to start doing regular posts showcasing stylish pieces you can find for cheap at your local stores everywhere. Sort of like a look for less, but we’ll call it bossy on budget :)

On that note, these Mossimo Floral Shorts were found at target.com for only $17.99 and they are SO chic! These are perfect for a casual day when you still want to look your best. They also come with the skinny belt and I thought that was a great accessory to  have in your closet. I created a look based around the shorts and tried to keep it inexpensive; and of course you know you can always find similar items for less at different stores. Anywho I paired the shorts with brown oxfords by Steve Madden and a stonewash denim chambray shirt from Forever21. You can check those out below and leave a comment with your thoughts! Are you feeling this look?

[Fashion Files] Neon Shoegasm

Do you believe in love at first sight? I didn’t until I saw these shoes at NastyGal.com! I immediately fell in love with these Agnes Platform Wedges  that  I found at their website for…*weeps silently* $198! Lol yeah I know the price is steep but it’s ok to lust over them anyway!

I love the make of the actual wedge and how they square off at the tip and at the very back. The color is perfect for spring and will look great with anything, especially floral prints which are currently in style. It all depends on if you think the price is right. So tell me would you splurge $200 on these wedges? And if not these, what WOULD you splurge $200 on? Hit us up with comments :)
