2013 Mother/Daughter Fashion Show [+ Pics!]

photo (19)

Last weekend for Mother’s Day I was honored to have the chance to style my own “Boss Chic Walk” in the annual Mother/Daughter Fashion Show given by the Sandra M Estes Scholarship Foundation locally. The scholarship is intended for single mothers attending nursing school to help with their college tuition. A good friend of mine, Marissa, started this fashion show last year in honor of her mother, where women and their daughters coordinate outfits and strut on stage. The little girls who are in the show every year always steal the spotlight with their diva attitudes and fierce walks!

In my personal section, I had ten models that I chose to walk and wear looks that I styled myself. I got some of the pieces from my own closet and some were found while thrifting. Other items came from some of the models themselves. They were all such a big help and so cooperative in the fast paced environment. I couldn’t be more thankful! All of the accessories for my part of the show came from Trixi’s Closet, who graciously let me use anything they had without hesitation. The different looks were put together with Trixi’s Closet jewelry in mind to show how versatile the pieces are. Not to mention to showcase how dope my style is! LOL jk or am I? :)

Check out the gallery from the fashion show below and leave a comment with your thoughts! I also posted a detailed list of what each of my models wore as well as what they had on from Trixi’s Closet. I’m so thankful I got the opportunity to support such a good cause!

[Fashion Files] The Best Tanks Ever!

mossimotanks

I LOVE Mossimo tank tops! These are the only tank tops that I buy now! I used to be hard on Old Navy’s but I have to get an extra small for them to fit me just right, and they still don’t stretch as much as I like. On the other hand, these Mossimo tanks fit perfectly! Now I will say that I have a very small waist in comparison to my hips, however my stomach is far from flat. This is one of my main insecurities, but you’ll never know (wait I just told you lol) because I’m constantly getting compliments about how tiny I am. It’s an illusion and I owe it to well fitted clothing!

I don’t think people realize how much the way your clothes fit can make or break your outfit. Wearing tanks that are too small can make you look like you have no boobs and a muffin top. You definitely don’t want to squeeze into them! At the same time, a tank that’s too big just looks sloppy and tacky. I hate when my tanks are too big because I constantly have to fool with the straps to keep my bra covered. So if you’re looking for the perfect tank for the spring and summer, definitely stop by Target and cop you a few Mossimo tanks! They’re only $8 a piece but sometimes you can catch them on special. They have plenty of designs to choose from and they are in stock year round. Thank me later!

[Exclusive Interview] Trixi’s Closet

Attachment-1

What’s up bosses and boss chics! Remember last week that I told you to be on the lookout for something big from my best friend? Well it’s about that time to get excited for what she has in store! Later this week Trixi’s Closet will be making its debut at www.shoptrixiscloset.com where the every day woman can find affordable accessories.

I for one am ecstatic about what my friend Tia is doing because she’s putting my city on the map. Not only that but she’s putting as many people on as possible in the process, mainly her girls and I love the fact that we build each other up. It’s like we’re one team working towards taking over the world lol no seriously…You’ll see soon enough! I sat down with Tia and asked her a few questions regarding her upcoming online store and got in her head a little as well.

Check out the interview after the break as well as a gallery containing a few exclusive pics spotted with Trixi’s Closet accessories!

V-Day Date Outfit Contest Winner!

IMG_5937

Happy Valentine’s Day bosses and boss chics! I hope everyone is spending their day with the one they love! If not suck it up, it’s just one day lol. Anywho remember awhile back I had annouced that I would be doing a giveway for Valentine’s Day? I asked readers to send a pic of a Valentine’s Day date inspired outfit and let us know where the items came from, then we would vote. However I only received one response and she actually sent three different looks!

Destiny, who is from my hometown but now a freshman at UVA, did her thing with her three Valentine’s Day date looks! I think the first look is sexy and fit for a romantic dinner date. The second is more flirty and fun and fit for a date that’s more casual and laid back. The last look is chic and classy, but still not too dressy. It could be worn on a fancy date, or just a casual date depending on how you feel for the day. Destiny got all of her pieces from Forever21 but the red dress on the left came from GoJane.

I love how she gave us different looks that all tie in to the lover’s holiday. She played it up with the color red but kept it versatile at the same time. Destiny is one of my favorite fashionistas and she’s still young so imagine how her style will evolve over time. Get it girl! Be on the lookout for your gift in the mail soon and thanks so much for participating! :)

[Positive Monday] All I Want For My Birthdayyyy…

*throws shades on*

*throws shades on*

So I’m a little late considering that Monday is over but we’re gonna pretend it’s still #PositiveMonday anyway lol. First of all my birthday was this past Friday and I’m so thankful to have the chance to see 24! At first I thought I was going to have the worst birthday ever for reasons I won’t speak on, however it turned out to be the best one yet.

Friday night I went out for food and drinks with my best friend where we had countless laughs like we always do. I had already talked her into going with me to Charlotte for the night on Saturday so by 1 PM that day we were on our way. When we got there we didn’t have to pay for a room or anything because who I like to call my “mentor” had already got the room for us… and she was on vacation herself! After getting settled, Tia and I went to Cheesecake Factory (and literally had to stalk people sitting at the bar for a seat lol), then we did some shopping. I found an outfit to wear out that night and fell in love with a pair of flowered Doc Marten’s I found in Nordstrom on sale for $65.

[Fashion Files] Poshmark Consignment App

What’s up bosses and boss chics! Everyone loves a good deal when it comes to fashion especially if you can find designer items for an extremely discounted price. Consignment shops and thrift stores are becoming increasingly popular since vintage wear and 90′s attire are making a full come back. Many online blogs and websites offer the opportunity to buy others’ used clothing at low prices, allowing shoppers to purchase items that may normally be hard to come by.

In the past couple of months, phone companies have stepped their game all the way up by providing a new consignment shop app called Poshmark. Poshmark allows users to post their items to sell to potential buyers. It sort of works like eBay where the buyer must commit to purchasing the item and send payment before it is actually shipped.

I thought this was something interesting to share and it may give you fashionistas and shopaholics a more convenient alternative to actually going out to thrift stores. Download the app from your provider and let me know what you think! If you happen to find any good items on there, feel free to hit me up and let me know what you purchase!

What’s up bosses and boss chics! We are one day away from Friday finally! I decided to switch up my hair yesterday because I had been wearing it straightened out for the past two weeks. I try not to put heat to my hair too often to avoid potential breakage, not to mention I really enjoy practicing natural hairstyles on my hair so I experiment often.

I was introduced to the Dollar Tree rollers by a friend from high school. She posted a pic to her IG when she tried them, but her curls came out tighter than mine. Of course I had to try this once she told me where she got the rollers from, and I was immediately impressed at how effortless this hairstyle is.

If you’re interested in trying this, just go purchase a few packs of the smallest sponge rollers from your local Dollar Tree. I’m currently using all As I Am natural hair care products. I used the twisting crime on each strand and just rolled my hair all over. Don’t worry if they’re not neat, they will still turn out pretty once you take them out. If you decide to try it, post a pic to your IG or twitter and tag us @BossChicFiles! Have a happy Thursday!

[Bossy On Budget] Old Navy Pop Pants

One of the best things about Thanksgiving is all the deals that come on Black Friday and the cyber sales the following week. A few weeks ago, I did a post about Old Navy’s color skinny jeans which have been seen on a few celebrities like Blake Lively and Katie Holmes. Well this week those jeans are on sale for only $19 so of course I had to share! They have at least 20 different colors or patterns so hit up OldNavy.com if you’re interested!

PS: These would make a perfect Christmas gift for any woman in your life (or yourself). Don’t say I never gave ya’ll anything :)
