Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

myhaircut

Guess who went and got a new look?? That’s right I had to switch it up again! Most of you already knew I cut my hair since I’m an Instagram addict lol but I thought I’d post a blog anyway. I’m the type of person who has to go through with something once I’ve put the thought in my head and it was no different with getting this cut. I was kind of iffy at first because I didn’t want to get a relaxer, but the last time I cut my hair I ended up getting one that didn’t take so I was still mostly natural. I’ve been wanting to try something different with my hair for a while now and even considered getting a sew in. I’m not really one to put a lot of money into my hair, so the latter option wasn’t really for me.

What’s up bosses and boss chics! We are one day away from Friday finally! I decided to switch up my hair yesterday because I had been wearing it straightened out for the past two weeks. I try not to put heat to my hair too often to avoid potential breakage, not to mention I really enjoy practicing natural hairstyles on my hair so I experiment often.

I was introduced to the Dollar Tree rollers by a friend from high school. She posted a pic to her IG when she tried them, but her curls came out tighter than mine. Of course I had to try this once she told me where she got the rollers from, and I was immediately impressed at how effortless this hairstyle is.

If you’re interested in trying this, just go purchase a few packs of the smallest sponge rollers from your local Dollar Tree. I’m currently using all As I Am natural hair care products. I used the twisting crime on each strand and just rolled my hair all over. Don’t worry if they’re not neat, they will still turn out pretty once you take them out. If you decide to try it, post a pic to your IG or twitter and tag us @BossChicFiles! Have a happy Thursday!

[Mane Attraction] Chopped & Screwed

What’s up bosses and boss chics? I’ve been busy with work and class and spending my free days in the pool with Trey! Summer time is always full of activities so I’m not in front of the computer much; I’ve been away for so long that I haven’t posted any updates on my natural transition. About two months ago I cut all my hair off sort of into a mohawk similar to Rihanna’s previous haircut.

I ended up getting a relaxer when I first got my hair cut because I wanted the back and sides to lay down. However after getting the relaxer my hair was still curly, so about a month ago I got another one. Ironically that one didn’t take either so my hair is pretty much still in the natural state. I started off wearing my hair straight and played around with different styles. Since the cut is long in the front and short in the back, it’s easy to wear it different ways.

After it got warmer and I started going to the pool more often, I began to wear my hair curly. At first I was skeptical about how it would look, but I actually ended up loving it! Since then I’ve been pretty much washing my hair and wearing it curly every day, but next I want to try putting rods in my hair. Whenever I try the next style I’ll be sure to update you guys! So far I’m really loving my short hair and plan to keep it this way for awhile. You can check out a few pics below of the different ways I’ve been wearing my new look.

[My Natural Transition] 1 Year Anniversary

Good morning bosses and boss chics! I have finally reached my one year anniversary for my transition to natural hair! It seems like it took me forever but I can’t believe I did it. There is no way you could’ve told the old me who LOVES a silk wrap that my hair would be one year into natural by now lol.

The good thing about it is that I’ve realized I can do much more with natural hair than I could with relaxed. My hair is much thicker and stronger, which ironically makes it more manageable as well. I’ve found many ways to pin it up or wear it curly. Throughout my transition, I’ve kept you guys posted with different blows showing the ways I’ve worn my hair. My favorite is always when it’s full of volume and curls :)

Majority of the styles I’ve worn have been created using bantu knots or having one of my friends do my hair in a twist set. I don’t have much relaxer left in my hair and I’m thinking of how I want to change up my look as we speak. I wouldn’t mind going for a cut or getting color. However, I know color won’t show up too well without bleach, and I don’t think bleach is a route I want to take. On the flip side, I’ve thought about getting a sew in just to switch things up… I’ve always wanted to go the bright red that Rihanna had previously. I guess we’ll see how it works out. In the meantime, I’ll be experimenting with fishtail and goddess braids soon.

Check out some of my favorite natural styles that I’ve tried below. Are you natural or in the process of transitioning? If so feel free to leave your thoughts on the process below as well as any tips you’d like to share. Going natural is definitely a process that takes some getting used to, but I think it’s well worth it. Your hair is one of the things that can be used to express yourself, and going natural is a wonderful statement to make.

[My Natural Hair] The Fishtail Braid

div class=”separator” style=”clear: both; text-align: center;”img border=”0″ height=”320px” src=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ceFUq5ucefA/Tz5-pRXBdeI/AAAAAAAACG0/qxLnstEuH_I/s320/rihannafishtail.jpg” width=”200px” yda=”true” /a href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2calmqQG0ww/Tz5-lvLOjxI/AAAAAAAACGs/6Xd7ZwiUXN0/s1600/vanessafishtail.bmp” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;”img border=”0″ height=”320px” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2calmqQG0ww/Tz5-lvLOjxI/AAAAAAAACGs/6Xd7ZwiUXN0/s320/vanessafishtail.bmp” width=”224px” yda=”true” //a/divdiv align=”center”/divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Believe it or not I’m still going strong with #teamnatural even though it’s been a serious struggle! I had started doing random posts about my hair to maybe help other women/girls going through the natural process as well but I haven’t experimented with any new hairstyles lately. Just to give an update though, I had been wearing my hair in the bantu knots and taking them out like before. One time I had tried the bantu knots in twists rather than plaits, and the result was a head full of curls like I had gotten rods. I loved it!/divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Once my bantu twists fell completely, I figured out a way to pin up my hair in a cute, messy bun to avoid washing my hair for a few days. I then went to the beauty shop the weekend before my birthday (2 weeks ago) and decided to get my hair flat ironed again. I hadn’t gotten it like that since October and I loved how it turned out. I’ve been trying to stay away from putting heat to my head to avoid breakage in the future, so it’s very rare that I get it straightened. /divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Now I’m in the last few days of my straight hair and I’m trying to hold off as long as possible before doing my hair again. My hair is just so massive and thick, it’s a process trying to do anything to it. What I want to try next is the fishtail braid as pictured above. That way I can do something different to my hair while it’s straight and I can hold off on washing it again for a few more days. /divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Below I’ve posted a few pictures like I normally do of my different hairstyles I’ve been trying lately. If you’re going natural but run out of ideas for your hair, always check the transitional videos on youtube… they are so helpful! Check out my different hair “experiments” below lol and let me know what you think!/divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”XOXO,/divdiv align=”center”LaBellaBoss ♥br /br /a name=’more’/a/divdiv align=”center”br //div table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pwrfAXUV9Cc/Tz6IizeWM0I/AAAAAAAACHE/RXhTj3Xh90Y/s1600/mewrapscarf.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”320px” src=”http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pwrfAXUV9Cc/Tz6IizeWM0I/AAAAAAAACHE/RXhTj3Xh90Y/s320/mewrapscarf.jpg” width=”320px” yda=”true” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”When my bantu knots were still wet, I wore my scarf br /like a turban for a day :) /td/tr/tbody/table div align=”center”/divbr /br /table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hr31p47QlmQ/Tz6HxIWrNFI/AAAAAAAACG8/1dfHQLgth6k/s1600/mebantutwists.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”320px” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hr31p47QlmQ/Tz6HxIWrNFI/AAAAAAAACG8/1dfHQLgth6k/s320/mebantutwists.jpg” width=”320px” yda=”true” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”Bantu twist out… my hair was extremely curly /td/tr/tbody/tablediv align=”center”/divdiv align=”center”br //div table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnTcDj6aayA/Tz6Jhkc3i1I/AAAAAAAACHM/6TSliJbFkHI/s1600/memessycurlybun.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”320px” src=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnTcDj6aayA/Tz6Jhkc3i1I/AAAAAAAACHM/6TSliJbFkHI/s320/memessycurlybun.jpg” width=”320px” yda=”true” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”After the twist out fell, I put it up in a messy bun/td/tr/tbody/table div align=”center”br //div table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q3RN16L1dio/Tz6Jp5CFwhI/AAAAAAAACHU/XAT27XKf_MM/s1600/mestraighthair.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”320px” src=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q3RN16L1dio/Tz6Jp5CFwhI/AAAAAAAACHU/XAT27XKf_MM/s320/mestraighthair.jpg” width=”320px” yda=”true” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”After my hair was initially straightenedbr /SN: my natural hair holds curls so much better than my relaxed hair!/td/tr/tbody/table div align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”br //div

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas holiday! I know I did :) Anywho, it’s back to work for me as of today and back to reality. I was on twitter today and saw where Draya from Basketball Wives LA tweeted about something called Haute Headz and included the picture of herself shown above. Of course I had to click the link to see what the hype was about and found myself impressed./divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Haute Headz are basically chains worn on the head as a fashion accessory that can be worn with anything. These are a great way to spice up your look or just a way to seperate yourself from others when it comes to fashion. I love the chain that Draya has on in the pic! I checked out the website at a href=”http://www.hauteheadzhair.com/”http://www.hauteheadzhair.com//anbsp;to look at the rest of the collection as well. The other pieces they have are a little more formal and have jewels and charms hanging from them. I don’t really know where I would wear those, so I would probably just settle for the chain Draya is rocking. /divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”These will run you anywhere from $45-$65, if you’re interested you can check out the website for yourself! Would you wear one of these, and if so where to?? I definitely think they can be bossy if worn correctly… key word IF lol! Let us know what you think :) br /br /XOXO,/divdiv align=”center”LaBellaBoss ♥br /br //div

I’m still going relaxer free believe it or not lol, hell I don’t even believe it myself. I told ya’ll about my experience of going natural last year O_o #epicfail lol. This time around I’m really serious about it, and I hope and pray I don’t give in! /divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Someone asked me a few days ago what the point was in going natural, and I honestly couldn’t give them a straight up answer. I sat and thought about the REAL reasons behind me going natural, and I must say it sounds just like something I would say lol. I guess you could say I’m choosing to go natural to “go against the grain”. So many people have it in their head that women are supposed to have straight, long and flowing hair and everyone knows that silk wraps are the thing now. br /br /Well I’ve literally been getting silk wraps since I first started high school, and I’m honestly just tired. I’m tired of fighting with my hair and putting chemicals in it to get it to stay straight, so why do it? I guess you could say I want to be different in every way, and this is a start. Plus I have the type of hair that works with going natural because it’s thick and wavy. It’s going to be thick regardless of if I get relaxers or not, so why not try something different?/divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Anyway, I apologize for the rant lol but I wanted to post a few more pics of how I’ve been working with my hair. Remember I got a rod set a little over a week ago? Well I haven’t taken it out yet, I’ve just been playing that up with different looks. You can check out the pics below, and let me know what you think! Is anyone ready to join me yet?? :) /divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”XOXO,/divdiv align=”center”LaBellaBoss ♥br /br /a name=’more’/a/divbr /table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RwldiQ25Ymw/TpQyRq_ERGI/AAAAAAAABEI/Gdy4sPyM9MU/s1600/fallenrods.JPG” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”240px” oda=”true” src=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RwldiQ25Ymw/TpQyRq_ERGI/AAAAAAAABEI/Gdy4sPyM9MU/s320/fallenrods.JPG” width=”320px” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”My rods after they fell/td/tr/tbody/tablebr /br /br / table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M2-7kEn1m_I/TpQwjDAhJJI/AAAAAAAABDg/EkddbvGqzHU/s1600/rods2.JPG” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”240px” oda=”true” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M2-7kEn1m_I/TpQwjDAhJJI/AAAAAAAABDg/EkddbvGqzHU/s320/rods2.JPG” width=”320px” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”I just put the top up and put a clip in it and left the back down/td/tr/tbody/table div align=”center”br //div table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hsemM7fJaOQ/TpQwvyh-seI/AAAAAAAABDo/iDkaF12evmM/s1600/rods3.JPG” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”272px” oda=”true” src=”http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hsemM7fJaOQ/TpQwvyh-seI/AAAAAAAABDo/iDkaF12evmM/s320/rods3.JPG” width=”320px” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”Here I just pinned up up with bobby pins to the sidebr /and pinned up a hump in the front. /td/tr/tbody/table div align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”br //div table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J6YwluUd5iI/TpQw7Zvh70I/AAAAAAAABDw/PrCRDd3yeTU/s1600/rods4.JPG” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”240px” oda=”true” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J6YwluUd5iI/TpQw7Zvh70I/AAAAAAAABDw/PrCRDd3yeTU/s320/rods4.JPG” width=”320px” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”This is the same as before, just a different view/td/tr/tbody/table div align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”br //div table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pzGsp9dwg0I/TpQxJWU6LaI/AAAAAAAABD4/POB_EiKMdVg/s1600/rods5.JPG” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”240px” oda=”true” src=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pzGsp9dwg0I/TpQxJWU6LaI/AAAAAAAABD4/POB_EiKMdVg/s320/rods5.JPG” width=”320px” //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”Here I just put did a side braid and pulled my hair backbr /in a side ponytail.
