[Positive Monday] Just The Two Of Us

Happy Monday bosses and boss chics!! I hope everyone had a great weekend despite the major power outage in my local area and other areas as well. We were out of power for almost 24 hours (and some STILL are) during the hottest weekend of the year thus far. Can we say in the way? Lucky for me, I missed most of the power outage because I stayed in Greensboro on Friday night after taking my little cousin and her friend to Superjam.

On Saturday I took my son Trey to the Asheboro Zoo and we had so much fun! Everybody kept telling me how this was going to be one of the hottest days of the year, but since I work on weekends I would not have been able to take him any other day in the near future. I am not an outdoors person at all, but seeing the smile on Trey’s face as we were visiting the animal exhibits was worth every sweat bead and sore muscle.

[Positive Monday] Who Run The World?

Girl's Night Out

Happy Monday bosses and boss chics!! And of course Happy Delayed Mother’s Day to all the great mother’s out there being the best they can be for their kids! First of all I had an AMAZING weekend! Actually I had an amazing last few days period. Before my weekend even started I was sent Mother’s Day flowers by a secret admirer to work. I have never been sent anything by a secret admirer and I thought that was pretty dope on whoever’s part :) THEN the next day I received a gift certificate for Mother’s Day for an hour-long full body massage and a mani and pedi from someone who I will always have love for… both gifts were unexpected but greatly appreciated!! They made me feel special, and I NEVER get Mother’s Day gifts so that really made my holiday.

Even though my weekend was great, I did have to work on Friday night and Saturday morning at my part time job so I didn’t get to do much Friday night. However after work on Saturday, I was BLESSED with the opportunity to walk with my mom in one of her good friend’s Mother/Daughter fashion show. Her friend (who has become like a big sister to me) lost her mother not even a year ago in a fatal car wreck, and she and her siblings decided to start this annual mother/daughter fashion show as a representation for their love for her. The proceeds from the show went to the Sandra Estes Scholarship Fund which will be an annual scholarship given to college students.

The fashion show was a major success and I had so much fun being in it with my mom! It was great being in an environment surrounded by women in a positive light for a change. Right after the fashion show, me and all my girls decided to go get drinks at the local Mexican restaurant and luckily it was nice enough to sit outside. I know we sat out there for a good two or three hours eating, drinking, laughing, and catching up on old times. I can’t even tell you the last time we had all been together, so this felt so good! I’m thankful to still be able to say I have the same friends that I had when I was little. That in itself is a blessing.

To wrap up my weekend, yesterday I went to church with Trey and my best friend and cousin, and afterwards spent time with my dad’s family at my grandma’s. My grandma fell and broke her tailbone about a month ago so instead of going out, we ordered food and sat around the house chopping it up. My family drives me crazy at times but I always appreciate those moments with them. There is nothing like having a family to that gets on your nerves from time to time, that’s how you know the love is real! Some people aren’t so lucky! After spending time at my grandma’s, Trey and I went to my mom’s and relaxed with her for awhile. She sent us home with SO MUCH food lol and did I say she is a bomb cook?

After a long weekend I came home and literally HIT the bed… I was so tired last night I could barely function but the weekend was well worth it! I’m glad I got to spend time with my family and ALL of my girls because that doesn’t happen too often in one weekend. I hope everyone had a great weekend as well and have a productive week to follow! Check out a few pics from my weekend below :)

[Fashion Files] Nick Love The Kids

Amandla Steinberg aka "Rue" from The Hunger Games

This past weekend presented the annual Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards and these young stars came dressed to impressed! Now don’t get it twisted, I didn’t watch the awards but as I was checking the blogs this morning for my daily updates I immediately noticed the fashion from the orange carpet. I was so impressed with how fashion forward they looked but in a respectful, age appropriate way.

Pictured above is 14 year old Amandla Steinberg who played my favorite character Rue in the smash movie The Hunger Games. This is off subject a tad, but Amandla received racist backlash for her role in the movie… people were upset that Rue was a black girl and some even went as far as saying it ruined the movie for them. I personally read the books and know for a fact it stated that Rue had dark skin and dark eyes, but go figure! People will turn anything into a racial issue smh.

Do We Spend Too Much On Our Kids’ Clothes?

div align=”center”table align=”center” cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ class=”tr-caption-container” style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;”tbodytrtd style=”text-align: center;”a href=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3aDVYkWPFvM/TwcUhatVNfI/AAAAAAAAB3M/Ai9KdL-QzwY/s1600/tamekakids.jpg” imageanchor=”1″ style=”margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”img border=”0″ height=”320″ rea=”true” src=”http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3aDVYkWPFvM/TwcUhatVNfI/AAAAAAAAB3M/Ai9KdL-QzwY/s320/tamekakids.jpg” width=”213″ //a/td/trtrtd class=”tr-caption” style=”text-align: center;”Tameka Raymond keeps her boys fly!/td/tr/tbody/table/divdiv align=”center”I read Common’s book “One Day It’ll All Make Sense” about two months ago and received some very helpful, quirky bits of advice throughout the entire book. One of the things that stood out to me the most was an excerpt from his mom giving insight on what it was like to raise him. Like myself she was a single mother raising a young boy, doing what she could to provide for him. But there was one thing she said that really caught my attention./divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”You know how people criticize the parents who are always dressed fly from head to toe but have their kids looking any kind of way? Well I agree with them 100% that you should never just have your kids looking ragged while you’re sporting name brand and everything on you is fixed up. But Common’s mother said something related to that in which I agree with even more. In a nut shell she feels that since she worked hard for everything that was provided for her and Common, then he wasn’t getting anything new to wear if she didn’t. Her specific argument was how could she go out and buy him everything name brand and have herself looking any kind of way, when she was the one bringing home the bread?br /a name=’more’/abr /I agree with her to the fullest extent! Now I’m not saying I’m going to go out and just shop for myself and have Trey looking any kind of way, that’s not going to happen. But at the same time I’m not going to go out and buy him Polo this and that, Nike boots, Rocawear, and whatever else and then I can’t even afford to treat myself to anything nice. It amazes me how some people really will not let their kids walk out of the house without name brand clothes from head to toe. I’m not knocking anyone for this because by all means if you can afford it then why not. But lots of time people go for broke trying to keep their kids up in the latest clothes and shoes.nbsp; And on top of that, the kids only mess up their shoes in two weeks and come homenbsp;withnbsp;clothes full of paints and colors, or dirt.nbsp; It’s ridiculous!/divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Most of the time I find that this is a common problem with our own race. It’s like we try to out do each other, and whoever dresses their kids the best gets a recognition prize or something… umm not! It’s crazy because my dad buys Trey a lot of clothes from Polo and whatnot, and you know what Trey does? Asks me every day if he can wear sweatpants or basketball shorts to school. Bottom line is that most kids don’t really care about that stuff and when you put emphasis on dressing your kids in the best, that’s what they’re going to expect for 18 years. /divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”So I said all of this to say, yes I dress my son nicely as all parents should… But I’ll also go to Old Navy, Children’s Place, etc in a heart beat. I can’t see myself spending all of my extra funds on him to look nice and never be able to treat myself to anything. Parents who actually put in time and work with their kids deserve it!/divdiv align=”center”br //divdiv align=”center”Do you think we put too much emphasis on how our kids dress? Do you agree with Common’s mom? Leave us a comment with your thoughts and opinions!/divdiv align=”center”br /SN: FYI you can dress your kids super fly without spending mad money… Hamp;M, Aero for kids, etc. #imjustsaying *shrugs*/divdiv align=”center”XOXO,/divdiv align=”center”LaBellaBoss ♥br /br //div

Sadly not enough men own up to their responsibilities as fathers, nbsp; leaving many children to grow up in single parent homes or with someone else altogether. Having a father around is so essential to a child’s life, so every man should WANT to take good care of their children so they can be better people when they grow up. In honor of the great fathers out there, I found some pics of celebrity dads spending time with their kids either out and about or at red carpet events.
